The Alexandra WI was formed in October 2010, and at the time filled a gap in the ‘WI map’ of North London. Based at CUFOS, the former Alexandra Palace railway station in the shadow of that iconic landmark, the WI attracts women from Muswell Hill, Crouch End and further afield.
Now in our 14th year, we have a membership of around 30 with a mix of ages from 30s through to 70s. Like many WIs, we’re still keen to attract more members and welcome any local women looking for some ‘time out’ to learn and laugh and enjoy the fellowship of other women with us on the first Tuesday evening of the month.
We like to think we offer a stimulating programme of events, and over the years some of our more popular meetings have including gin and wine tastings, crafting sessions, and talks from local authors and businesses.
We also have an annual ‘members’ meeting, when we invite our own members to talk about aspects of their lives outside the WI: this is always a popular session.
In addition, we have an on-line stitching group, hold outings which generally include a guided walk or theatre trip, and usually have a fundraising stall during the year.
Members of other WIs are always warmly welcomed at our meetings: please don’t be shy if you’re in the area, or if our speaker or activity is of interest.
